5 spot

A few hours at Hesketh, Banks and Marshside this morning. I thought the tides, rain and winds might have dropped some waders, but it was hard going with very few smaller waders on offer.

5 Spotted Red the highlights at Hesketh, including a cracking juvenile. 8+ Greenshank, 3 Avocet, 500+ Golden Plover and a handful of Dunlin the rest of the waders. 3 Ruff at Banks and plenty of Black-tailed Godwit knocking around.

Also Goosander, Peregrine, Marsh Harrier, Wheatear, Ruddy Shelduck, 2 GWE and a few Yellow Wags.

Banks was pretty quiet apart from a pair of Black Swan, more Yellow Wags and a party of 9 Grey Partridge.

Marshside had a constant in flow of Pinks on the light northerly and a brief raptor watch notched up 6 species in next to no time. Not had my first ringtail of the autumn yet, but when I do, I hope its a Franky Four Fingers……

Rounded the day off with a garden tick Wheatear + 5 Buzzards almost constantly overhead – lets hope for some waders soon…..
