Colours

8 freshly “in” Wigeon the only new birds at Hesketh – wow, they seem early! Still some nice birds knocking about that have been around for several weeks or longer – GWE, Goldies, Spotted Red, Greenshank, Common Sand etc etc but the pools are now too high with the recent rain and high tides combining.

Banks is also too high, but 3 juv Yellow Wags and a cracking Barn Owl worth the effort.

Marshside, again – too high – just the resident Greenshank and Cattle Egrets of note.

Speaking of high – some cracking high tides over the next few days so the beach is always worth checking out. Ainsdale was full of birds away from the hoardes – lots of waders, Sarnie Terns, and gulls.

2 nice Sanderling recoveries – one rung in Spain (yellow and orange), the other in Ghana (red flag)!

Another colour ring on this UK rung Common Gull.

There were also 2 of Tony Cross’s Welsh rung Dunlin, but unfortunately I couldn’t read the coding on them.

The waders held the usual suspects – Several thousand Dunlin and Sanderling and then a few Knots, Grey Plover, Bar-tailed Godwit, Ringed Plover and Oystercatcher. Couldn’t find the hoped for White-rumped Sand, but happy with this moulting adult Curlew Sand instead.

The Sarnie’s had a couple of Common Tern in them – hopefully some Little or Black soon.

Lastly of interest was this partially leucistic Dunlin with a white “ruff-like” head and neck – very striking.

Looking forward to the ring recovery info…….
